Permanent Residence
The Mauritius Government recently introduced regulations to allow non-Mauritian citizens to obtain the "Permanent Resident" status. With an minimum investment of US$500,000, the investor, as well as his spouse and children (under 18), can become "Permanent Residents" in Mauritius. The amount should be invested for a minimum of 10 years.
Other next of kin of the foreign investor or of his spouse are also eligible to become "Permanent Resident" with a deposit of US$100,000 in respect of each such person.
The investment should be made:
EITHER in the following sectors:
- Manufacturing.
- Hotel, tourism and related services.
- Financial Services.
- Agro-based industry.
- Fishing and marine resources.
- Operational headquarters of multinational companies.
- Freeport operations.
- Information technology.
- Concessions projects.
- Film production.
OR in a fund approved by the Minister of Finance OR on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius.
- The investor can then purchase one immovable property of an extent not exceeding 1 arpent (4220.87 m-square) for his personal use for a value up to 20% of the original investment made.
- The requirement for a work permit will be disapplied for the investor and his dependents.
- The Permanent Residence Scheme will give the investor the opportunity to apply for Mauritius citizenship.
Right to buy property
Investor can acquire for residential purposes only:
(a) A flat or portion of land or immovable property not exceeding 1.25 arpents
(b) Should be at least 100 metres away from sea frontage
